Bailey’s family, the 6- year-old dog, woke up to the most heart-breaking thing any dog owner can wake up to, which is her dog death, just a few weeks after being diagnosed.

Losing a dear four-legged friend is never easy for any dog owner, but knowing that your dog died because of the food you gave him/her, really hurts!

In fact, that what you can feel how painful it is when you hear Gina Perry, who lost her young four-legged friend Bailey and still mourning the death of her saying: “It’s just too soon to lose a pet over dog food”.

Canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is what our dear Bailey, the German shorthaired pointer dog, was diagnosed with after only two years of eating grain-free foods.

According to the AKC, Canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious disease of the heart muscle whereby the heart becomes enlarged with weak contractions, which affects the lungs, the heart, and eventually death like the poor Bailey we are talking about today.

Moreover, Canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is associated with grain-free diets, which again, was the main cause of the dog’s death. Because, according to Perry, “I thought the dog food would be better. It looked better, and I thought it would be healthier for my dog”. And she is not the only dog owner who thinks that way.

According to the FDA- The Food and Drugs Administration, Between Jan. 1, 2014, and April 30, 2019, 560 dogs were diagnosed with DMC and of those, 119 dogs died.
