When Rescuers found Perry, the 10-year-old Pyrenees, she was abandoned outside the shelter with a heartbreaking note that only had 7 words:
Over 10 yrs old. Can no longer walk”
Read the hand-written note.
Rescuers took the dog inside where they began to examine him. They found out the dog’s disability might have been caused by years of neglect. The Veterinarian diagnosed Perry with two types of Lyme disease.
Now the rescuers believed that the tired old dog might have nothing wrong with him, he was just sick. They didn’t have to wait long for their theory to be proven.
After some physical therapy and lots of LTC, Perry was back on his feet and transformed into a completely different dog.
Perry’s story was posted online and it has garnered the attention of thousands of people that were worried about the dog’s welfare. Together, the dog lovers raised $6,000 to pay for Perry’s medical care, allowing the rescuers to help the dog to regain his mobility after years of abuse.
Perry’s former owner, meanwhile, was charged with failing to provide his dog with veterinary care, which could have prevented all of this. Fortunately, his rescuers were able to turn this heartbreaking ordeal into a demonstration for why people should care about their pets and never abandon them.
***While we are not happy that this has happened, we hope everyone can view this as an educational event. We do not know…Posted by Wanderers' Rest Humane Association on Monday, 15 June 2020
“We try to take action immediately where we can, but our biggest point was to make people understand why it’s not okay to do that,”
Said Wilcox, noting that there always resources available to pet owners struggling to feed or properly care for their animals. (Please contact your local shelter or humane society if you find yourself in such a situation.)
Currently, Perry is being fostered by his physical therapist that takes pride in pampering the dog after years of neglect.
They’ve already bought so much stuff for him, he’s going to be spoiled, so he definitely deserves that.”
We couldn’t agree more!
