Pulgia spotted the dog while driving and immediately hit the brakes, the video from his dashcam shows the moment he rushes to sae his dog.
When he noticed the dog was breathing, he wrapped him in an emergency blanket and placed him in the SUV and notified dispatch.
The team at the Pinellas Animal Hospital was notified of the incident by our communications department and they were awaiting Ofc. Puglia’s arrival,Pinellas Park Police Department wrote on Facebook.
Fortunately, the dog suffered just minor cuts and bruises from the accident.
After some medical examinations, the dog is expected to make a full recovery. The owner has not yet been located due to the dog not having a microchip or tag
The is currently at the county’s animal shelter and has been given the nickname “Lucky”, which is very fitting. If the dog’s is not claimed soon, Puglia’s family is willing to give the dog a new forever home with them.
“This incident is just another example of the dedication and compassion our officers have for our four-legged friends. Great job to Ofc. Puglia.”
