26-year-old Ruby Maunder and 24-year-old Eve Macconvile were in Mexico when they found a street dog in such a bad condition that they couldn’t bear the idea of leaving alone.
The two Australians fell in love with the Chihuahua terrier-cross Miguel, one, when he tried to sit in Ruby’s lab just moments before they were due to leave Mixquic in Mexico.
The poor Miguel was so ravaged by mange that he was half the weight he should’ve been and was hairless. Even worse, he was constantly being harassed by other stray dogs.

He had no fur on his feet and no hair on his tail and was very lethargic and slow moving
Normally, I would be afraid to do that in case a dog bit me, but it was almost like he was trying to tell me that he needed help
So, she didn’t fear him, and instead, she picked him and decided to try and help him. She contacted the shelter, and they sadly told her they had no place for him. They were already overcapacity. This meant they had to either abandon the dog or take things on their own hands.
