Get ready for 5 rare cat breeds that you probably havent heard about before.

I want you to think about the next following cat breeds as something exotic, something precious and rare. This article will talk about special, unique and rare cat breeds that are not available for everyday cat lovers.

1.Bombay

Adorable Bombay cat

This may come off as a little bit biased, as I believe that one of my own cats is part Bombay, but these cats are really part of the rare cat breeds.

This little black panther loves games. Being one of the most loyal cat breeds, they often like exploring their home on their owner’s shoulders. Vanta ( our cat) really does enjoy my husband’s shoulder rides, too. This vantage point allows them to see things they couldn’t have seen from the ground level before.

So, it comes with no surprise that Bombay cats enjoy sitting in high places or finding out new tricks to move around their territory.

Another striking feature about them is the fact that they have black paws. Well, not only paws, but ears and noses too. They are one of the only felines that have that feature, rightfully earning a spot on this list of rare cat breeds.

Last but not least, this cat is also 100% good at giving cuddles and being a loyal companion.

2.Savannah Cat

Like many of the other rare cat breeds, these cats love following you around the house. Both of my cats, despite not being Savannah cats will follow my husband and me EVERYWHERE.

Going to hang up some laundry to dry? They will be sitting right next to the laundry basket.

Cooking some delicious dinner? They are lulling around my ankles in the hope of getting some of it.

Going to the bathroom and- dare I say close the door- yep, instant mews of complaint from the other side.

….

However, this doesn’t mean that Savannah cat breeds will be as clingy. I have just spoiled mine a little.

Here is also a little bit of proof how similar Savannah cat breeds are to dogs:

  • Savannah cats love playing fetch.
  • They wag their tails in excitement when you come home. How adorable is that!
  • They love water and will spalsh it with their front paws if you dont watch out.

Like I mentioned above, due to the Savannah cats love for water they will sometimes shower with their humans and enjoy going for a bath. Quite unique, don’t you think so?

The reason they are considered on this list of rare cat breeds is that they are very difficult to breed. This is because only 4th and 5th generation Savannah cats are usually “domesticated” enough to live with us.

Furthermore, they can be trained to walk on a leash, which if I think, is absolutely amazing! Imagine being able to take your beloved felines outdoors to show them the beautiful nature.

3.Bengal

Bengal cats are awesome. They are fiercely loyal with an overwhelming amount of positive energy packed into their small bodies.

Forests? These cats are all up for going on a long hike.

Beach vacation? They love water! Their sense of adventure is one of the cutest things about this rare cat breeds. They are all an active and out-going person could ask for.

However, this doesnt mean that they aren’t up for cuddles. Getting warm and cosy around the chimney with you is definitely one of their favourite pastimes. The above mentioned Bombay is also a candidate for this.

One of the reasons they are considers one of the rare cat breeds is that it is very difficult to get one. They can be very pricey and they will also need a lot more active care than a lot of other cat breeds. This isn’t a bad thing at all as long as you have the time to care for them.

In conclusion: these felines are awesome.

4.Japanese Bobtail

This unique breed is …special. They come in a spectrum of colours, obviously including grey and white cat breeds. They have fluffy, bunny-like tails instead of long ones.

Also known as the stray cats of Japan, they are popular with tourists due to their docile and out-going behaviour.

They have a large range of vocals, from silent purrs to loud mews and chirps. They are described to have a song-like voice.

Japanese Bobtail´s are active and curious. They like playing with water, playing fetch or simply carrying toys around.

Last but not least, they are good with children and other pets (including dogs). Apparently they enjoy sitting on your shoulder (just like my one)and enjoy supervising from above.

5.Birman

Also known as the “Sacred Cat of Burma”, this long-haired cat breed sports a few unique features.

Usually, they are claimed to have originated as the companions of temple priests in northern Burma in the Mount of Lugh.

Birmans are calm and affectionate felines. They enjoy spending time with their families and being a former temple dweller they love being worshipped with cuddles.

Furthermore, these cats feature a “gloves and laces” pattern, which meas that they should always have white feet, regardless of their colouration.

Speaking of colouration: they have long-haired, colour-pointed silky fur coats and deep blue eye. Birmans should have four white feet, with a pattern described as “gloves and laces.”Image

Thoughts

So, this was my take on some of the rare cat breeds in the world. I know that there are many other rare cat breeds, but I deliberately don’t write about cat breeds that suffer due to overbreeding. Advertising the adoption of those cats would only cause them more pain. I truly appreciate your understanding.
