Have you already settled on your new year’s resolutions for 2021? Have you included your dog in them?

If you didn’t you should have. Your dogs are a big part of your life, and you are everything in your dog’s life, they must be included in your new year’s resolutions.

In fact, including your pet in them can actually help you stick to this year’s resolutions (which would be a first for many, including myself).

Three New Year’s Resolutions to All Dog Owners

Here are three resolutions to make with your dog that are actually easy to stick to.

Do More Exercise

Doing more exercise and getting fit is the one resolution 99% of us do every year at the start of the new year, and most of us give up a couple of weeks later.

Your dog can actually help you achieve that. Simply go for more walks and runs with your dog. Your dog loves walking and running, and they can motivate you to go out every day.

The secret to getting fit it to actually get moving. It’s not some secret pill or a device, it’s to just move around more and use your muscles. More walking and daily exercise will help strengthen the bond you and your dog have as well.

New Experiences

Do you want to travel more? Get to know more people? Be more popular? All of these are very common new year’s resolutions, and dog owners can – and should – include their dogs in these.

You should go to new places and meet new people, and it will be much better with your dog by your side. Yes, it can be a bit more expensive to travel with your dog, and the logistics of air travel with your dog are going to be more complicated, but I promise you it’s will be definitely worth it.

Conquer Your Fears

Have you ever wanted to go hiking but are afraid of it? What about mountain biking with your dog? Does your dog fear camping? Make this year the one you both overcome some of your fears.

Remember that the bond you have with your dog makes both you and your pup stronger. You can both get strength from having the other by your side.

Use positive reinforcement training and help your dog overcome their fear while knowing that they’re safe and nothing bad will happen to them.

What you get with each new year is a burst of motivation and energy, use this to your advantage to build better habits with your dog. Remember that the time we have on this earth is limited, so we should make the best use of it with our dogs and enjoy every moment with them.
